Kantha
Kantha for the Bengali folk means embroidered quilt. Traditionally women in Bengal used Kantha stitch, to join layers of old cloth to make quilts. The embroidery was a means of self-expression by the rural women of Bengal. It is the way in which this stitch is used, in different arrangements, that forms the complex vocabulary of Kantha.
