Terracotta is a type of fired clay, typically of a brownish red colour which is used as ornamental building material and in modelling different idols, figurines etc. The archetypal horse of Bankura Terracotta has over the time gained recognition among art lovers of the world. It is regarded as a symbol of the All India Handicrafts Board. Dried in the sun and burnt in mud kilns, these earthly ensembles in dull ochre or red are a delight to the eyes.
